Don't hit the wall
Today about 60,000 people run from Staten Island to Central Park. Now it's your turn. You get 26.2 miles, five boroughs, five bridges and roughly 2,000 calories of glycogen in the tank. Pace it, fuel it, drink it, high-five it, and get to the finish before the tank runs dry.
Pick your runner
Each runner has a goal time. Steady effort on flat ground is roughly goal pace. The course, the weather and your choices do the rest.
How to play (30 seconds)
- Effort (keys 1–5 or ↑/↓): faster efforts burn Fuel and wreck your Legs. Walking is allowed, with no shame.
- Fuel is your glycogen. When it drops below 15% you've hit the wall and everything slows. Eat a gel (G) to top up (it takes about a mile to kick in), but space them out or your stomach will revolt.
- Aid stations sit at every mile from 3 to 25. When the cup buttons glow, grab Water (W) or Sports drink (D, a little fuel too). If your Fluid drops below half, you slow down.
- Free gels at miles 12 and 18 and bananas at 21: tap the pop-up or press B.
- Signs pop up where the crowds are thick. Tap them or press H to high-five for Spirit, and collect them all in your album. The Queensboro Bridge is silent, and low Spirit costs you pace.
- Things happen. Choose wisely. P or Esc pauses.
